Precise Timing For Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry

Researchers at Leopold-Franzens Universitat in Austria are utilizing two Quantum Composers 9520 Digital Delay/Pulse Generator to coordinate the timing of their 22 pole ion trap experiment to probe the properties of cold molecular ions.

Two 8-channel pulse delay generators are used to run the experiment. The Quantum Composers 9528 are ideally suitable here as the units deliver 8 pulses with individual width and delay and can easily be synchronized to drive the here needed 12 independent timing events with an accuracy below a nanosecond. The ion source runs the evaluation time for one million measurement points from 30 seconds to less than one second.

Cameras That Can See Around Corners

Researchers at MIT, Harvard, and Rice University have developed an exciting new technology that enables cameras to see rough images of objects around corners. The approach utilizes femtosecond laser bursts and sophisticated algorithms to decode the travel time and angle of impact of scattered bits of laser light that have interacted with the sample.

Quantum Composers Announces iPad Winner: Dr. Sebastian Raeder

Quantum Composers, Pulse Generator and Laser Technology manufacturer, has selected Dr. Sebastian Raeder as the winner for the “2011 Colleague Recommendation Contest”. Dr. Raeder works in a laser laboratory which uses pulsed nansosecond Ti:sapphire laser systems for resonant laser ionization of rare radionuclides at Canada’s National Laboratory for Nuclear and Particle Physics (TRIUMF) in Vancouver, BC, Canada. This “resonant ionization laser ion source” is an element selective, highly efficient ion source, that provides intense beams of short lived isotopes, which are produced at TRIUMF’s isotope separator and accelerator facility.

Quantum Composers representative Erin Prieskorn says ” we couldn’t be more happy to get to present this award to a scientist doing such excellent research”.

TRIUMF’s isotope separator and accelerator facility in Vancouver BC is one of a few facilities world-wide that provide beams or short-lived, exotic radioactive isotopes for nuclear and particle physics experiments. Its user community based in Canada, the US and overseas is composed mostly of university based groups and teams of scientists, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate and undergraduate students that use the unique radioactive ion beams available, the unique infrastructure and experimental facilities available at TRIUMF.

Quantum Composers current generators provide precisely timed current pulses ideally suited for applications such as laser triggering, airbag testing, pyrotechnics, resistance measurement, and squib and initiator testing.

9710 Current Pulse Generator (bench-top)

Capable of outputting up to 25A per channel (max 100ms pulse width, set in 200ns increments), the 9710 is a very powerful digitally controlled current pulse source. As with all Quantum Composers products, specs are listed per our commercially available models; we are able to customize our units to meet specific requirements. Standard features include current monitoring, safety interlocks, and T0 sync output.

9730 Current Pulse Generator (rack-mount)

The 9730 Current Pulse Generator enhances the basic current pulse functionality of the 9710 series by employing features that enhance repeatability and safety. Added safety features include a keyed enable switch and remote interlock. Sensing capabilities are also improved with the addition of voltage monitoring, and integrated 4 wire resistance measurements with pre/post test data collection.
